And next year Sonic becomes 10.... ...and it looks like its the year he dies out...-sigh- the comics don't look like they are gonna last...all the great artists are "leaving". I heard from sumone that after Sonic Adventure II no more sonic games...o.-; bummer...he's like slowly dying off here...and we the fans aren't doing much to stop that....if everyone wrote letters to the comic companies, and to Sega of America...we might get sumthing done. Maybe not alot...but sumthing. . .. . When I was in 10th grade I brought my Sonic Comics in...I got looks from most cause I read comics...but others seen it was Sonic and the response I got was "Wow, I remember when I was younger I use towatch him on TV, and Play the games!" And for my best friend's sake (who is a sonic freak or was...) I brought in Tails plushie...My friend loved it...and other kids thought it was weird but cute...and others just yelled at that they knew it was Tails, and remembered the games." . .. . o.o The generation that was introduced to Sonic is growing up and feel like they are too old for cartoons now. And Sonic isn't apealing to the younger kids today. When I babysat I introuduced Sonic to them...and besides the 11 year old...the rest didn't know who he was. Alex, the 8 year old I babysit, bought sonic comics...and wasn't too interested in them. They were alwayed continued, and too complicated. long long long LONG time ago...the comics where filled with short stories...easy to read...and alot where silly. Thats what kids like to read. Althought...I like the way the comics are now. The kids today are more into Pokemon, Digimon, Monster Ranchers, Card Captors, DBZ, etc...anime...thats what everyone likes...anime. o.o; Sonic is not really anime...it was just created in Japan. . .. . I can't suggest to change the games...everyone loves the SA game. Even the 7 year old who got pretty far playing it on m'DC.... -.-;; I dunno...I just know that eveyone is gonna be upset it Sonic totaly disappears... *wonders off depressed* -M- --- Thoughts below... Posted by Graham If Sonic Adventure II is the last Sonic game, we can likely kiss SonicTeam's hope and aspirations goodbye. Not to mention Sega, I'd suppose... remember the Saturn mess? Not too likely, this first point. And as for Sonic not being the fad these days? I'd rather see it die than return to the mindless wanton punning of Mike Gallagher. No offense to the guy; but the comics have gone on this way for too long, and there's no stopping a good thing... He's better for cameos, I think. If it's dumbing down to Pokemon levels, I'd rather see it die :P In all honesty, the story - even at its worst - is better than some - a lot of? - anime out there *anyway*... Sir Graham, Mobian spy I think griping about things is a fad these days... ...alas, the fad won't be ending soon... --- More thoughts frum me! Posted by Lady Laguna (with a nervous stomach) Sonic Adventure II will absolutely *not* be the last Sonic game... That's bullhockey! Sega's putting a lot of stock into Sonic at this point; they want to turn him into a legacy like Mario is (now, no arguments about how he already *is* a legacy--but Mario's had at least a game a year up to this point, no matter how dumb or insignificant, and Sonic has not). How about Sonic Shuffle, for one? That rumor probably started because Sonic Team broke into two pieces not long ago.. That doesn't mean they won't work on further Sonic projects--that just means they're pursuing other projects separately. Many ppl thought Sonic Adventure would be the last--but that's obviously not true, is it? Rumors can spread quickly--a friend of mine caught wind of concerns voiced on this board, and thought that #100 would *absolutely* be the last issue... I had to clear things up for her... ^^; And about Sonic being an anime--I don't care what anyone thinks about that... But comparing Sonic to Pokémon is almost an impossible comparison. These days it is worth saying, though, that Sonic is no longer a kiddie franchise. Videogames have moved beyond being kiddie fare, it's safe to say... Both Sega and Sony have been marketing their wares towards late teenagers/early adults. Nintendo is still aiming for kids because, quite frankly, they've given up on experienced gamers. They've had some gems but they can't crank out nearly enough quality products to bring older audiences. Recently, they've been attempting to snatch an older crowd with *very* mature games, but will that work...? The point I'm trying to make is this: Sonic should no longer be treated as a child's mascot... This may be one reason why the comic's success is declining. Olden day Sonic fans are growing up, and older ppl who just got into Sonic through Sonic Adventure are, quite frankly, disinterested in the comic's less mature tone. Let's be positive though... Maybe someone will come along to save the book! Hey, whomever they bring in to replace Butler, may be the next Spaz! Remember how many books got sold after he started doing the covers? ^^ ::Crosses Fingers; she's one of the few loyal Sonic Otaku who still read the book:: ~LL ------ a few things about the end of Sonic... Posted by Naraku As long as there is Sega, there will be Sonic. Just the same, as long as there is Nintendo there will be Mario, and as long as there's Disney there'll be Mickey. Sonic is THE big Sega name. Even if the comics end, the games will very likely continue until the death of Sega. Even if the original generation that loved Sonic is all 'grown up' and doesn't like him any more, there's still millions of people that are young enough to enjoy the Sonic games. o.o must kill pokemon... ~Naraku Sonic & Knuckles w/ Sonic 1 Bonus Level #97175842: 5133 8812 2768 enjoy! ------ Hmm... Posted by Dr. Robotnik on August 28, 2000 at 11:42:37: There has been a lot of talk lately regarding the end of the Sonic comic. Frankly, I don't believe a word of it. SEGA and Archie have made some poor desicions in the past but neither one would call for the comic's shutdown. Steven Butler left. Yes, but so did Scott Shaw! after Sonic In Yo' Face. I could run through a list of pencillers and some writers who aren't working on the book anymore who stopped a while back. Steven Butler probably wanted to move to another book after working on Sonic for a couple of years. The People who were Sonic fans before are "grown up and no longer like him". I suppose, but there are exceptions to that(I've been a fan since 1991, and I would say the majority of Sonic websites are owned by older fans). Not only that, but SEGA is also trying to draw in new fans. Look at Sonic Adventure as it's a good example. Is this Sonic from the Genesis days or Sonic aimed at a new group of fans? Archie no longer offers 12 issue Sonic subscriptions. They also no longer offer 12 issue Archie subscriptions. I believe Sonic's still the best selling comic. I'm pretty sure the industry is in a slump which will probably kill off weaker selling titles, which Sonic the Hedgehog is not. Slumps are temporary. Here's my favorite one: After Sonic Adventure 2 there won't be any more Sonic games. SonicTeam would have to be insane to do that. If by some freak chance, SonicTeam decided to stop, SEGA would get someone else to do it as SEGA holds the copyright. They wouldn't be quite the same, but SEGA needs to hold onto it's mascot. It's true that SEGA's hired ad agency(Foote, Cone, and Belding Worldwide) didn't seem to be working too hard for them during the last two years of the Saturn(while they did produce the memorable Sonic R ad during the "Hard Stuff" campaign), they wouldn't kill off their recognizable mascot. Until I hear of the cancellation from someone who works on the book, I won't believe it. Meanwhile sales could be hurt by people discouraging others to buy the book because they think it might be on it's way out. Don't dig the grave while the heart's still beating. ------ Thank You!!! Posted by True Red I couldn't say it any better myself! ------ Sweet irony.... Posted by Double‡Cross The only way you can get a 12-issue subscription of Sonic is by using the order form that doubles as the backing of an already subscribed comic that comes in the mail. O.O ~Double‡Cross~ ------ of course... Posted by Naraku Sonic Adventure 2 is a crappy name. Sonic Adventure is a good name, but there should be other names, like Sonic Pandemonium or Sonic Inferno. Maybe Sonic Armageddon... (as long as it doesn't involve a big meteor the size of texas) When i hear "Sonic Adventure 2" i automatically think Chaos and Tikal will be in the game (which would be pretty redundant) are Big and E-102 going to be in SA2? I'd understand Big being included, because even though he doesn't really fit with the story line, he wasn't destroyed like gamma (who,IMHO, shouldn't be in SA2) and now, it is time to get into some obscenely high levels in S&K w/S1... ~Naraku Es ist nicht leicht ein Gott zu sein --- Randomly generated Bonus Levels... Posted by Lady Laguna The summer of my seventh grade year, I got hooked on those! I played them obsessively all the time for months--before I realized they were randomly generated, I was convinced I would eventually reach the end (the 1000th level, I figured) and get a *really kewl* perk. ^^ I got a lot less sleep... You can ask my friends--One day when they were about to come over I was awaiting their call, and I fell asleep with the phone in my hands. I dreamt about the game and was hitting the buttons on the phone as if it were a controller. They called, I hit the button that turned on the phone, and they heard me scream in my sleep, "SOMETHING SHOULD BE HAPPENING NOW!!" Then I woke up, and realized I had made a butthead of myself. ^^; I played a bit less then. ~LL --- not quite... Posted by Naraku At first i thought they were randomly generated, but there are also many original parts to each level. when you get around Level 97175900, you see lots of things that aren't in the earlier levels. i'd just like to see how many levels there are, though (since there are 1 trillion combinations for the code, and some don't work, i'd guess there are about 1 billion levels). well, time to persuade my parents to let me play some more or get my sis to let me use the comp for about 15 more minutes ~Naraku
