New Writer On The Sonic Comic - Danny Fingeroth !!!! Posted by WB Hi guys. I posted this info along with Sonic 87 spoilers on the news page at Sonic HQ. I dont mean to come off as mean spirited but I HOPE AND PRAY that the Sonic comic book has a new writer.... And you know what - I REALLY REALLY like the sound of Mr. Fingeroths stuff. everybody take a look http://www.emulationzone.org/sonichq/news/news.htm If this guys actual work is as good as the previews sound then I'm ALL FOR him taking over. I'm actually stoked over seeing Metal Sonic (A SENTIENT Metal Sonic) back in the book. This is like the first REAL APPEARANCE since Sonic #25. I'm sorry right now I'm so horrendously sick of Karl Bollers' take on Sonic that I could scream. I thought about this while looking at those previews. Everyone in the book now owes something or looks up to or has been subordinate to Nate Morgan. Robotnik worked under Nate when he was young Nate lives in Sonic's house Snively wanted him to join his gang when he was on the lam King Max goes all twitterpated over him and calls him Uncle Amy owes her going to Station Square to Nate who convinced Max to let her go Bunnie owes him her new limbs Ixis Naugus wanted him for some undecipherable reason Rotor doesnt even EXIST in the book now because of him Uncle Chuck and Sonics parents were taught under him He's responsible for all of Mobius Heck - if you read issues lately Tails no longer even SEEMS like Sonic's sidekick or Li'l Bro. He's just there to fly around and look older. One of the SHQ forumers said - Its like the Midget Bill Cosby just stands there handing out pudding pops and sayng "A roboticiser is a lot like jello...." That is the most PLOT DEVICED plot device I have ever seen in my life. And I'll be glad to see him pushed in the background. Dare I say he's worse than Monkey Khan ever was, who NOW, with those new spoilers, is looking interesting more and more. Irony of ironies As for Sonic #83 - really it was dull at best but at least theres no ghettospeak. VERY Nice artwork from Mr. Butler but VERY sloppy story and dialogue. The story felt rushed and scenes didnt flesh out. I dont wanna seem like I'm bashing Mr. Bollers, but when he first came out I was THE MAIN one defending him, saying he was adjusting to his new role as writer. We've gotten past issue 75 (the only one of his really good ones IMO) and he's only gotten worse. Sales have dropped and we need NEW BLOOD. And I'm glad Archie took incentive to get the latter. ONLY TWO MORE ISSUES TO GO !!!!!!!!! ^_^ I know Mr. Fingeroth's done some issues for Marvel - I think he was the editor of Spidey at one point. Gotta check w/some friends of mine. Once I find out a good but of info I'll post it on the news page. At any rate at least things in my eyes are looking up for the Sonic comic. I'm actually INTERESTED in those spoilers again. Sure Sonic isnt Shakespeare - it never was. But if I'm gonna shell out money for the book I'd at least like a nice read, y'know? Any port in a storm I always say --- Re: New Writer Posted by Bumper : Hi guys. I posted this info along with Sonic 87 spoilers on the news page at Sonic HQ. I dont mean to come off as mean spirited but I HOPE AND PRAY that the Sonic comic book has a new writer.... Well, Karl's supposed to take a 'vacation' in 84, so we just might. : : And you know what - I REALLY REALLY like the sound of Mr. Fingeroths stuff. everybody take a look : SHQ News Page : If this guys actual work is as good as the previews sound then I'm ALL FOR him taking over. I'm actually stoked over seeing Metal Sonic (A SENTIENT Metal Sonic) back in the book. This is like the first REAL APPEARANCE since Sonic #25. True, Metal Sonic has needed a new appearance for a long time now. And if he's sentient, there's a lot more open-ended type things they can do with him. : I'm sorry right now I'm so horrendously sick of Karl Bollers' take on Sonic that I could scream. I thought about this while looking at those previews. Everyone in the book now owes something or looks up to or has been subordinate to Nate Morgan. Yeah, I'm not too impressed with Nate as a character right now. He has a lot of potential, but Karl is screwing it all away with his ego, IMO. : Robotnik worked under Nate when he was young Yes.... : Nate lives in Sonic's house Well, he's gotta live somewhere I guess. : Snively wanted him to join his gang when he was on the lam Well, he wanted those power ring forges, I guess... : King Max goes all twitterpated over him and calls him Uncle Even Sally's calling him 'Uncle Nate' now... bleh! : Amy owes her going to Station Square to Nate who convinced Max to let her go No comment, honestly.... : Bunnie owes him her new limbs Something Rotor or Chuck could've done just as well... : Ixis Naugus wanted him for some undecipherable reason Nothing to say here, either. : Rotor doesnt even EXIST in the book now because of him That's what PO's me the most, but I don't like the words 'doesn't exist', because he does, somewhere in the middle of nowhere, and the fact the characters haven't really mentioned him AT ALL is getting really pathetic and sad. I mean, I know it's only been about a week, maybe since he departed in the continium, but they don't even seem to think about him from time to time, even. Give me a break... : Uncle Chuck and Sonics parents were taught under him Yep.... : He's responsible for all of Mobius With all these combined, can you say 'Karl's Ego Trip'? : Heck - if you read issues lately Tails no longer even SEEMS like Sonic's sidekick or Li'l Bro. He's just there to fly around and look older. One of the SHQ forumers said - Its like the Midget Bill Cosby just stands there handing out pudding pops and sayng "A roboticiser is a lot like jello...." : That is the most PLOT DEVICED plot device I have ever seen in my life. And I'll be glad to see him pushed in the background. Dare I say he's worse than Monkey Khan ever was, who NOW, with those new spoilers, is looking interesting more and more. Well, very few things wouldn't be an improvement of Karl, let me tell ya, IMO. : Irony of ironies : As for Sonic #83 - really it was dull at best but at least theres no ghettospeak. Sure Sonic isnt Shakespeare - it never was. But if I'm gonna shell out money for the book I'd at least like a nice read, y'know? Agreed. ------ My take Posted by Dr. Robotnik : Hi guys. I posted this info along with Sonic 87 spoilers on the news page at Sonic HQ. I dont mean to come off as mean spirited but I HOPE AND PRAY that the Sonic comic book has a new writer.... I've been doing that since issue #57 : If this guys actual work is as good as the previews sound then I'm ALL FOR him taking over. I'm actually stoked over seeing Metal Sonic (A SENTIENT Metal Sonic) back in the book. This is like the first REAL APPEARANCE since Sonic #25. He was in Knuckles Chaotix as Hyper Metal Sonic. : I'm sorry right now I'm so horrendously sick of Karl Bollers' take on Sonic that I could scream. He is a terrible Sonic writer. He seems to have little feeling for the characters. He doesn't seem to know how the characters are supposed to act. He also doesn't seem like a Sonic fan of any Sonic universe. I think being a Sonic fan of one of the 7 universes(for the comics, the Archie universe is preferable) is almost essential so the characters are acting in character to at least one universe so you know what the writier is shooting for. KB seems to be shooting for changing the title of the book. : I thought about this while looking at those previews. Everyone in the book now owes something or looks up to or has been subordinate to Nate Morgan. Tell me about it. This has been going on since Nate first appeared. He's been the high-n-mighty-plot-device-super-genious-"I-did-everything-first-so-the-heck-with-continuity" character ever since he took credit for inventing the rings and the way to produce them. The comic isn't SatAM, but I think that the idea of Chuck inventing the rings was a lot better(he was related to the main character and was mentioned often before he got his free will back, now he's evil and written out because he and Rotor are inventors and if KB could only choose one inventor...). For the comic continuity story on rings, see issue #35. : Robotnik worked under Nate when he was young : Nate lives in Sonic's house : Snively wanted him to join his gang when he was on the lam : King Max goes all twitterpated over him and calls him Uncle : Amy owes her going to Station Square to Nate who convinced Max to let her go : Bunnie owes him her new limbs : Ixis Naugus wanted him for some undecipherable reason : Rotor doesnt even EXIST in the book now because of him : Uncle Chuck and Sonics parents were taught under him : He's responsible for all of Mobius He just happens to find a space shuttle(rather hard to miss donchathink?!) He invented the rings. He invented the ring forge. The FF's owe their very existence to all that Nate Morgan has done. : Heck - if you read issues lately Tails no longer even SEEMS like Sonic's sidekick or Li'l Bro. He's just there to fly around and look older. None of the characters can do jack without Nate around. Yes, I suppose an inventor character is needed. We had two, they were named Charles Hedgehog and Rotor "Boomer" Walrus. : That is the most PLOT DEVICED plot device I have ever seen in my life. And I'll be glad to see him pushed in the background. The only way that'll ever happen is a writing revolution. Fire Karl and the new writer writes out Nate. : Dare I say he's worse than Monkey Khan ever was, Monkey Khan is a heck of a lot better. It's just, he doesn't fit in with the other characters. : As for Sonic #83 - really it was dull at best but at least theres no ghettospeak. VERY Nice artwork from Mr. Butler but VERY sloppy story and dialogue. The story felt rushed and scenes didnt flesh out. Haven't seen it yet. I think they've got my subscription fixed at Archie. I dont wanna seem like I'm bashing Mr. Bollers, but when he first came out I was THE MAIN one defending him You and SonIXcool(I think) : saying he was adjusting to his new role as writer. 25+ issues should be enough time. : We've gotten past issue 75 (the only one of his really good ones IMO) I thought it wasn't that great. I liked #25 and #50 better. : and he's only gotten worse. Sales have dropped and we need NEW BLOOD. And I'm glad Archie took incentive to get the latter. "Aw YEAH!" : ONLY TWO MORE ISSUES TO GO !!!!!!!!! ^_^ I hope he's as good as Mike Gallagher(who wrote my favorite Sonic comic of all time issue #39) and Ken Penders(writer of my favortie comic series of all time) : I'm actually INTERESTED in those spoilers again. Instead of "Blah Blah Nate does this and that but will Nate pull it off in time?! Read next month's 'Nate!'" : Sure Sonic isnt Shakespeare - it never was. But if I'm gonna shell out money for the book I'd at least like a nice read, y'know? I Agree --- I have a couple things to add... Posted by That guy with the hat : I've been doing that since issue #57 Yes me too. : : If this guys actual work is as good as the previews sound then I'm ALL FOR him taking over. I'm actually stoked over seeing Metal Sonic (A SENTIENT Metal Sonic) back in the book. This is like the first REAL APPEARANCE since Sonic #25. : He was in Knuckles Chaotix as Hyper Metal Sonic. Mawhinney got a couple things wrong about him(hair and suddenly a mouth) and they got his name wrong(metal-mecha?) and they obviously didn't get a very good look at Hyper Metal Sonic who just stood there waiting to get beat up. Sega should have told them SO much more about this game than they did(not even any mention of the chaos rings). : : I'm sorry right now I'm so horrendously sick of Karl Bollers' take on Sonic that I could scream. : He is a terrible Sonic writer. He's destroyed the freedom fighters' characters completely. They don't act as a team anymore(that's what made the comics truly exciting), they just look like idiots waiting for Nate to handle any danger(though often he tells Sonic what to do, notice Sonic is totally incapable of thinking for himself anymore, it's disgusting! He's just an assistant) I addressed the destruction of Sonic's character in that rediculously long "( )" thing, but everyone's been demolished really, especially Bunnie. She used to be a useful member of the cast who had a personality, now she's a totally warped lookin' anime-a-macallit' who just stands around in the background staring at things if she appears at all! Sally just stand around looking perpetually surprised while being annoyed by the King who acts completely out of character. UNCLE CHUCK! COME BACK! BE DRAWN WELL!(I'll get to the lack of art quality later) COME HOME ROTOR! HOW LONG COULD IT POSSIBLY TAKE YOU? COME BACK SOON OR ELSE KB WILL TRY TO RELAY EVERYTHING THAT'S HAPPENED THUS FAR IN A CLIP SHOW EPISODE LOADED WITH STUPID LITTLE OVER-WRITTEN, OVER-DRAMATIC TEXTBOXES(yellow? Why?!) THAT FILL ENTIRE PAGES FOR NO BLOODY REASON! Now that I'm done talking to cartoon characters... : : I thought about this while looking at those previews. Everyone in the book now owes something or looks up to or has been subordinate to Nate Morgan. : Tell me about it. This has been going on since Nate first appeared. No continuity remains (ROBOROBOTNIK IS DEAD! He was defeated by Cyber-Sonic, when out of nowhere, Karl claims RR defeated them in his demension!.......WRONG...... ) and not to mention he claims to have invented TV, any one whose read a Sonic comic book in their lfe knows that's not true. : : Heck - if you read issues lately Tails no longer even SEEMS like Sonic's sidekick or Li'l Bro. He's just there to fly around and look older. : None of the characters can do jack without Nate around. Yes, I suppose an inventor character is needed. We had two, they were named Charles Hedgehog and Rotor "Boomer" Walrus. See earlier comments : : That is the most PLOT DEVICED plot device I have ever seen in my life. And I'll be glad to see him pushed in the background. : The only way that'll ever happen is a writing revolution. Fire Karl and the new writer writes out Nate. (and we'll all have a party!-tgwth) : : Dare I say he's worse than Monkey Khan ever was, : Monkey Khan is a heck of a lot better. It's just, he doesn't fit in with the other characters. Monkey Khan wouldn't be so bad if he was in his own series that had nothing to do with Sonic. Oh sure it'd still be bad, but not as bad. : : As for Sonic #83 - really it was dull at best but at least theres no ghettospeak. VERY Nice artwork from Mr. Butler but VERY sloppy story and dialogue. The story felt rushed and scenes didnt flesh out. : Haven't seen it yet. I think they've got my subscription fixed at Archie. I haven't seen much of this new artist's art, but I have seen enough to say he doesn't compare to Galan(who draws better than Roberto Bonini! WOW!) I think the art in the Sonic book has (duh)taken a drastic turn for the worse. Sally looks totally stupid when she's supposed to be smart. Most of the artists are so preoccupied with trying to fit in as much action as they can they don't pay attention to important things(sadly enough, this includes gravity). Character's hair will be waving in wind that isn't there, they will try to make characters look cool by giving them tall, spindly legs, arthritic hands, and huge eyes so they can fit in more shine effects. Male characters all have that really smug, "I can handle everything you throw my way" look and all female characters have a mysterious gaze look and both these expressions almost never change! Characters are consequently drawn totally off model, look ugly and some features must be thrown away so they still have room, for instance arms are very thin. Also it's decidedly anime(especially spaz)...UGH! What a hindrance that is. Part of the lost charm was the comic's sense of reality yet not reality(you know what I mean right?) now characters have crazy action poses no matter what they're doing that no one would use in real life. Maxwell does that the most(also when he draws all characters are suddenly tiny-tots and Antoine thinks it's a scream to show us his lame party trick where he puts a banana with an olive stuck to it in his mouth and tries to touch his forehead with it)but then, Maxwell makes characters heads look like ballons and puts corners where they normally wouldn't go. Galan was the last artist they had who could ever balance these elements. Who's responsibility is this diabolical color job? You'd think it all took place at night! : I dont wanna seem like I'm bashing Mr. Bollers, but when he first came out I was THE MAIN one defending him : You and SonIXcool(I think) : : saying he was adjusting to his new role as writer. : 25+ issues should be enough time. Say no more. : : We've gotten past issue 75 (the only one of his really good ones IMO) : I thought it wasn't that great. I liked #25 and #50 better. ISSUE 75 WAS TRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASH! Say no more. : : and he's only gotten worse. Sales have dropped and we need NEW BLOOD. And I'm glad Archie took incentive to get the latter. : "Aw YEAH!" "WHEEEEEEEEE DAWGY!"-Earthworm Jim : : ONLY TWO MORE ISSUES TO GO !!!!!!!!! ^_^ (Halelujah!-tgwth) : I hope he's as good as Mike Gallagher(who wrote my favorite Sonic comic of all time issue #39) and Ken Penders(writer of my favortie comic series of all time) : : I'm actually INTERESTED in those spoilers again. : Instead of "Blah Blah Nate does this and that but will Nate pull it off in time?! Read next month's 'Nate!'" Now its along the lines of, "Metal Sonic want's his taste of revenge! Can Sonic and his friends survive his ruthless attacks? Find out. : : Sure Sonic isnt Shakespeare - it never was. But if I'm gonna shell out money for the book I'd at least like a nice read, y'know? : I Agree Say no more! Karl Bollers oughta' be sent packin' with a can where on the bottom on the inside it says, "Not a winner, please drink another beer." Karl seemed to take the lines from Sonic's SA theme "this fight is not for anybody this is purely for myself." rather seriously eh? Also, why can't anyone on their staff draw Chaos? I can draw him quite well! Say no more. ------ Hmm.... Posted by Ixe Yes, indeed, he does sound like a good writer. I'm not going to say much about Karl Bollers. He's okay, in my opinion. And he can be a great writer. I've read his work on Marvel's "X-51: The Machine Man", which is light years ahead of his Sonic stuff. But as for Nate Morgan, I LIKE THE GUY. He's not that bad a character. He's just been... written wrong. Nate's been portrayed as a member of the team. He's not. He belongs with the old guard characters, like Jules and King Max. And instead of getting rid of Rotor, they should like, make Rotor a student of Nate, Rotor learning Nate's technical expertise, Nate learning from Rotor's on the fly ingenuity. But, I do admit, Nate should just chill for a while. Stay in the back-ground. But I don't believe they brought Nate in so they could drop Chuck. I think Chuck was put back under Robotnik's control to add some drama for Sonic. But that's just me. Think what ya will. One of the biggest complaints I've had recently is the lack of exposure Sonic's parents have been getting, actually. I mean, look how they discredited Jules in "Tales of the Great War." That was Jules who said they should bring back Robotnik, not Chuck. And no amount of guilt, realistically, could make Chuck think he said it. Just something I wanted to pass on to Ken... As for this new guy, I'll wait till I see his work to get all excited. You know what they say, "don't count your chickens before they're hatched." -SonIXcool --- This I agree with Posted by True Red : But as for Nate Morgan, I LIKE THE GUY. You said it better than I've been able to. Also, maybe it's because I haven't played SA yet, but after the first three issues I've totally enjoyed the SA adaptation. And Butler has gotten his Knuckles to look much better than in Sonic #79. ^_^ --- Re: I don't think they got rid of Rotor... And SOnIXcool replied: : But I don't believe they brought Nate in so they could drop Chuck. I think Chuck was put back under Robotnik's control to add some drama for Sonic. Exactly correct. That's Sonic's personal conflict in the storyline, since his parents are safe for the moment. : One of the biggest complaints I've had recently is the lack of exposure Sonic's parents have been getting, actually. I mean, look how they discredited Jules in "Tales of the Great War." That was Jules who said they should bring back Robotnik, not Chuck. And no amount of guilt, realistically, could make Chuck think he said it. Just something I wanted to pass on to Ken... You'd be surprised what guilt will make a person do, say, or remember. Look up some of the case histories in a psychology book about guilt and behavior. You'll be shocked/amazed/overwhelmed with what others have done, for something as trifling as failing to pay a parking ticket or return an overdue library book. The problem with understanding Sir Charles's motivations comes about because American perception is one of placing blame, rather than accepting it. "It's not MY fault. It's their fault!" Just look at the nightly news to see what I mean. Sir Charle's attitude is just the opposite of that. He places blame upon himself for things he's not even responsible for. It doesn't matter who made the actual decision to bring Julian back...it was the right decision to make at the time. If it's within your ability to help, then that help should be rendered. One never knows what an action today will bring as a result tomorrow, but that shouldn't stop us acting, or helping, today. --- You know what I mean...:P Posted by Astal : Astal commented: : : As for Uncle Chuck, do you think Robotnik's just going to let his former minions run around? : Except Sir Charles wasn't a minion of THIS Robotnik.
