RANTING ABOUT SSS #13 (Posts originally appeared on Ken's Messageboard) Sonic Super Special #13 (Sonic Adv) Posted by Rick 2Tails on March 26, 2000 I`ll put in my 2 cents on this issue.Cover : Amy looked the best everybody else looked good but Tails looked flat and Spaz picked a bad screen shot of Tails to homage/copy . He looks off a bit. Story: the first 2 pages were adequite for the recap. Not much to say on them except for Tikal`s misspelling. As far as Lim`s art. It`s ok.Some pages were stonger than others as well as his renditions of characters. His humans were drawn fine. His art of Tails,Sonic and Knuckles was good overall. His renditions of Sally and Bunny were off a bit.Their faces were too bony.It was good to see Bunnie use her expanding leg capacity for a change.I thought he drew Chaos in it`s various forms quite well.I was happy to see Tails tried to see if something besides force could deal with Chaos, unfortunately to no avail. I liked the quotes from the games but ,it`s dissapointing that so much of the game is cut out of the adaption. Overal ,I`d give it a B. --- Posted by Ian J. Flicky In Reply to: Sonic Super Special #13 (Sonic Adv) posted by Rick 2Tails I liked it too- I especially liked how they had one big story instead of a bunch of short ones. I was dissapointed to see that they didn't even include the action levels into the story, but I'm pleased nonetheless. It was so cool to see the story go more SegaSonic for a change. Anyway, I wanna see the Tails story. Thank goodnes Tails has some speaking parts in the comic now. He was really overshadowed before. I hope he becomes more important in the comics after this. Also, I'm glad Archie didn't mistake Big's simplicity for stupidity, and that we got to see some of him. What I don't like is that they're hinting to Amy reverting back to her old state. ah well. A very good special nonetheless. I think it deserves a B++ --- Believe it or not- Posted by Lucky Fan Sierra Ranay I have YET to find SSS#13, because the only charrier of the Sonic comics I know of is Books-a-Million, and that's in the next town 13 miles away. Not only that, they're SLOW about putting out their comics, ESPECIALLY when the Super Specials come out. It gets REALLY hairy there because they decide to wait until the next regular issue comes out. BUT, right now I find that this is the least of my problems right now. (Usually, for a laidback person like me, it would). Until I get business settled with Mr. Naka, I'll probably be back to worrying about when the next issue of Sonic comes out. (Thou I'm dying to get SSS#13!!!) --- Posted by True Red SSS #13 doesn't come out for at least another week from the Waldenbooks I go to, or that my sister has been going to on my behalf since I don't have time to go there. I don't even have Sonic #82 yet, which is coming out this Wednesday in the places I normally go to get Sonic. : BUT, right now I find that this is the least of my problems right now. Along with all the Sonic Adventure plushies, I found a letter from Yuji Naka himself. Here's what he had to say: "Hello! I am very sorry for the sudden mail. Please excuse me for this since it is necessary for me to contact you about your web, Sonicteam.com. First of all, I think I should introduce myself since I am going to ask you if you can do me a favor! I work for Sega Enterprises and I am the producer of many Sonic series. Currently I am working on Phantasy Star Online, Samba de Amigo and other titles that I hope you to enjoy soon. I have accessed to "Sonicteam.com" today again though it seems that this homepage has been shut down already. As you may understand from my previous mail (Have you recieved my mail? I am afraid that I have been sending to a wrong e-mail address.), I am currently working on our Sonic Team's official homepage website and I would like to use the URL "Sonicteam.com". If you're not going to use this address anymore, I would like you to consider giving us your URL to inform our new updated information and all other fun stuffs to have everybody enjoy. "Sonic team" is very important name for us, and as you may know my games have sold millions of copies throughout the world, and this name is very closely associated with my project team. If you can hand over your URL "Sonicteam.com". that will be really nice, and I have no intention to harm you. Of course if there's something that I can help with your Sonic Adventure page, I am willing to support this. Feel free to contact me. I am looking forward to hearing from you! Many Wishes, Yuji Naka " Well, not only was I thrilled to hear that SEGA wants my old site, I said YES. I'm giving those who are currently using the site one week to move to my other server, AtlantisCity.net, before I close the account and hand it to Yuji Naka. ------- ------- Ken's Statement on SSS #13, Originally posted on the "Previews" section on his site at www.kenpenders.com "I wish I could give you a more detailed account of what went on with the production of this issue, but it wasn't until I read this issue that I realized how much a blur working on it was to me. We had been gearing up to work on the Sonic adventure adaptation. (By "we", I'm referring to fellow writer Karl Bollers, editor Justin Gabrie along with myself.) A lot of planning had been going on to make this a smooth operation for all concerned. Unfortunately, Murphy's Law appeared to take hold of this project big time. We ended up working with a Japanese version of the game, and didn't get to see the American version, complete with notable changes we weren't aware of until too late, until we were about two-thirds of the way through. On top of that, while working on the project, I was also doing my best to keep the book KNUCKLES THE ECHIDNA from going under, working on my own series THE LOST ONES and handling assorted other tasks such as this website. When Justin proposed splitting up the plotting chores of this issue between karl and myself, with Karl handling the dialogue, I couldn't have been happier. Armed with the video, i adapted certain segments to mesh in with the material Karl wrote, essentially describing the action only, since I hadn't a clue what the motivation for any of the characters in the game were. Because the special dealt primarily with the game and little if anything of the continuity I had been writing, when I finally saw the finished product, none of it looked even remotely familiar to me.
