Posted by Joshua on January 10, 2000 at 00:54:11: (Thought Ken might like reading this, it's kind of a Goodbye to knuckles) (Sung to the tune of "American Pie") (Verse one) Aroudn teh year 1993, I can still remember when, Sonic, was still top of teh charts. His cartoon show wnet off the air, BUt I read the comic so I didn't care, and It wasn't long before KNuckles got his own, I read it all from issue one, Another legasy begun, The worlds that ken was Makin' had my mind over taken, Now it all is in the past, I would've like for it to last, But the boys at SEGA had other plans, The day, the Comic died. And they were singin' (Chorus) Bye Bye Mr. MObian pie, your comic just wen't chronic and we don't know why, The Archie boys are sayin' sonic is fine, That'll be the day that I die, That'll be the day that I die, (Verse one) When sonic adventure hit the scene, The cash it made plain obcsene, Yuji bought an island in the south china sea, They still had hold of Knuckles rights, so they call up archie and raised the price, Sales were not that bad, but they still went in the red, So while Charmy was givin' Safron a ring, and I was writin goofy songs to sing, WE knuckles fans didn't know a thing, The day the Comic died, And we were singin' (Chorus) (Verse three) Helter skeleter in the Summer swelter, Spaz had Julie in a Sonic shower, still to few sales, and falling fast. . . It landed hard on the grass, as Archie braced for a amrket Crash, with the chaotix, in a backup, that could't last, Well we fought like madmen on a hill, but we could't make that comic sell, Galan had left the scene, So that ended the dream, The comic that we knew and loved, would now be sqeezed in short backups, That day, the comic died. And he was singin' (Chorus) (Skip to last verse) At mid Ohio I someone who knew, if there was any happy news, He just smiled and turned away, I went down to the comic store, where I saw Knuckles, on sale before, But they said that comic would't sell, readers yell and fanboys screamed, Sonic laughed, the Choatix dreamed, but not a word was spoken, when Haven's dors were closin' and the two men I admired least, Yuji Naka, and Art Justin Gabrie, Pulled the book out from under me, The Day, the comic died. And they were singin. . . (Chorus 2X) ------ Posted by BobR In Reply to: Mobian Pie, (Bye Bye Knuckles) posted by Joshua : Yuji Naka, and Art Justin Gabrie, : Pulled the book out from under me, Overall, very well done. *Applause* Just a few minor things, though. It's Justin Freddie Gabrie, not Art Justin. And J.F. wasn't the one who pulled the book...he was just as surprised as anyone else, although he was the one to break the news to Ken. The book was pulled by Archie's publisher. And I doubt Yuji Naka gets anything more for Sonic than his usual pay from Sega. And other than the royalty fees, I'm not sure how much Sega had a hand in the actual cancellation of the comic. I doubt even Sega would've been that naive to pull a major character's comic on the eve of their big debut (aka Dreamcast). Frankly, this whole matter reeks of a power play by Archie's publisher, trying to get more money out of Sega or to just spite them for whatever reason. After the reaction to the Melissa Joan Hart thing, I wonder whether he's still playing with a full deck. The decisions coming out of the Archie back office sure don't seem to be very smart from this side of the fence. ------ One question, BobR... Posted by Ian J. Flicky I must be out of the loop here. What is the Melissa Joan Hart thing? I've heard about a 'thing', but I never could find out what it was. OK, Bye. ------ Posted by BobR In Reply to: One question, BobR... posted by Ian J. Flicky : I must be out of the loop here. What is the Melissa Joan Hart thing? I've heard about a 'thing', but I never could find out what it was. : OK, Bye. Essentially old news now, but Melissa Joan Hart, the actor who plays Sabrina the Teenage Witch in the live action TV show, did some "inappropriate" interviews with several magazines. Especially the one cover which proclaimed "Your Favorite Witch Without a Stitch," which was more hype than reality since she never actually appeared nude. Granted, she overstepped the boundary with several of her comments and ideas, but Archie's Owner/Publisher went ballistic in a memo to the production company that produces the TV show. Caused quite a sensation in the media with his actions...more so then M.J.H.'s interview itself did. If you don't want to call attention to a matter, you don't send out a memo like that. He would've been better served if he had handled it in-house. On the other hand, it just might have been a crafty ploy to get a lot of free publicity for the show while acting like the indignant owner of a violated property. *grin* -Bob- ------ ------ I like it... Posted by True Red In Reply to: Mobian Pie, (Bye Bye Knuckles) posted by Joshua ...but the comic isn't dead yet. The comic dies when we give up hope and stop fighting for it. Ken told us that they're talking about bringing Knux back, so all that's necessary is for a fan push. :) BTW, I'm suffering from Knuckles withdrawal myself. I'm driving my sister nuts by talking about how much I miss the comic already and it's not even two months yet! Save Our Knuckles http://saveourknuckles.cjb.net ------ ROTFLOL!!!! Posted by Chainspike Thank you... that was JUST what I needed. I was really feeling moody and miserable tonight thinking about the Knuckles comics... So sad, no Knuckles comics to celebrate the new year with. (For me, the year starts February 2nd ;) It will be the Year 6 A.K.E. [Anno Knuckles Echidna]) Boohooo... I'm totally breaking down. :'( *sniffle, sob, boohoo, wail* Well, you know what song I'll be having running in my head. ------ Well done there. Posted by Bumper I enjoyed the song, I actually sung while I was reading the thing. Decent lyrics, a few flaws but nothing serious. Good effort. Bumper, "Bye, bye Mr. Mobian Pie...." ------
