(Originally posted at the MoFo) JohnT 33 HQ Forumer Name meanings!! Hey, guess what...I looked up the meanings of the names of the Sonic/Knuckles characters!! Sonic Heroes: Maurice: Sonic's middle name. It means...dark skinned...O..kay...O_o Sally Alicia: Sally means 'princess' and Alicia means 'sweet'. Quite appropriate. Amy: beloved Antoine: highly praiseworthy. Of course, he seems to be treated the opposite..so maybe it's an Ant-onym? Nicole: Even Sally's computer gets a spotlight. The name means 'victory'. King Max: Max means 'greatest' (as if you haven't figured that out). Uncle Chuck: Another weird name. It means 'man or 'manly'. Geoffrey St. John: Peaceful. Another antonym. John means 'God has blessed/shown favor'...hmm... (In case you're wondering why put Geoff in the heroes section, it was like that in SonicHQ's profile page) In the next installment, I'm gonna put up the Sonic villains and possibly the Kunckles cast. MY NAME IS JOHN AND I AM CANADIAN ------ Raygirl ROL Ray Of Light And Annoying Brit ('nd proud!) Of The MoFo Hey! Neato! Thats cool! DO THE KNUX CAST PLEASE!!!!! :) ------ UHF Twineball I once looked up the name Bunnie. It seemed to fit rather well. ------ JohnT 33 HQ Forumer Name meanings: Part 2 Update!!! I looked up some of the other heroes names; Miles: In Irish, it means servant, while in English, it means merciful...kinda hard to figure out..for me at least. Elias: Most of you think that 'Elias' is an anagram of 'Salie', but it actually exists in the real world. In Hebrew, it means 'Jehovah is God' while in Spanish it means 'My God is Jehovah'. It's also a different version of "Elijah'. Maybe they have a Catholic in Archie comics...or perhaps it's only an anagram. Now for the villains. Villians Julian Ivo Robotnik: Julian means 'youth' or 'youthful'. Ivo is 'ovi' spelt backwards; 'ovi' means egg. Robotnik is Czechoslovakian for 'worker'. So Dr. Robotnik's name means 'youthful egg worker'...and we wonder why he became an evil genius. Snively: A deformation of the word 'snivel', which means to cry and complain...fitting isn't it? Finally, the Knuckles cast!! Wheeeee!!! Knuc Heroes Julie-Su: Her name means 'youthful'. Espio: Probably a deformation of 'espy',which means 'to catch sight of; spy' Vector: It's either a mathematical concept or an animal that transmits a disease-carrying organism...weird. Archimedes: Remember that Greek guy who ran out of his house naked shouting, "Eureka!"?? Remington: His name means 'from the raven farm', but his name was probably derived from TV detective character Remington Steele...A raven farm? Those guys at Archie are weird... Locke: It's a real name! It means 'lives by the stronghold' and is sometimes used to refer a locksmith (Locke like to lock secrets away). Lara-Le: Means 'mare' or 'protection' (presumably the latter). Athair: This is only a guess, but I think Athair is Old English for 'Arthur', which means 'noble and courageous'. Villians Enerjak/Dimitri: The search engine couldn't turn up anything, so I'm gonna have to go with "that guy from Anastasia" ^_^ Moritori Rex: His name is probably Latin. The closest Latin word to 'Moritori' is morior, meaning 'to die' or 'dead'. Rex means king...so Moritori Rex means 'Dead king'...creepy. Now for the Mystery Character!!! Kenneth Garran Baker: This is a fan character of mine; inspired by a certain post in this forum. Look up his middle name at the URL below for a clue. clue. makewayforbaby.com/babynames/ P.S. Anyone else who has other name meanings, please feel free to tell us. ------ LianneKa Echidna Knux Knut & Anime Fan Re: Name meanings: Part 2 I think Espio is supposed to be short for espionage. Same meaning. Espy is his nickname. Locke is from John Locke, the British philosopher who's writings were used many times in justifying revolutions that occured in the 1600-1700s by the people making them. Dimitri comes from the Greek goddess Demeter. It's a male variation on her name. But that wasn't the inspiration for his name. It comes from a soap opera (forgot the name). On the show there are two brothers, one is evil and the other is good. Guess which one is named Dimitri and guess which one is named Edmund? Archimedes is the famous mathematician--mainly dealing with circles. Rembrandt comes from the painter. Steppenwolf comes from the book, not the band. The some of the older characters names were given either Mike Kanterovich (Dimitri & Edmund's names were decided by Mike). Ken usually gets his names from some book or something that he gets his inspiration from. That's just a few. ------ DC HQ Forum User Re: Name meanings!! I enjoy finding out the meaning of names. The name book I have also gives a "Spiritual Connotation" along with a Bible verse. I will tell you some name meanings that are in the book I have. Alicia: Is different from what you found John, in the book I have, it means truthful. Maurice: is also different, it means "from the Marshland" One that has been left out is Bernadette: (the long version of Sonic's mother name)and that name means courageous. I find it interesting that Julian and Jules are basically considered the same name, just in a different language their both under the name "Julius" in my book and the name has the same meaning that you found John ------ S0PH1A HQ Forum User Nitpicking is fun! "Dimitri, a 3-syllable boy's name of Greek/Slavic origin, means: Lover of the earth. Dimitri's ethnic backgrounds include: Greek ." I don't remember exactly, but I think Demeter was the goddess of agriculture... so that's about right. And I think the guy on Anastasia spelled his name with only two i's, as Dmitri. *Forrest Gump impersonation* And that's all ah have to say about that. ------ LianneKa Echidna Knux Knut & Anime Fan Re: Name meanings!! It's probably different because it's from a different language. The language of origin determines the meaning of the name. I looked up Mina and got "south" under Japanese and "shortened form of Calumina which is dove" under Scottish. ------ DC HQ Forum User Your right Lianneka... language does effect the meaning of names, the entry(in the book I have) for Alicia was the Hispanic meaning. Also, I was able to find Lupe's name, and according to the book I have, the name is Spanish and means "wolf." ------ Raygirl ROL Ray Of Light And Annoying Brit ('nd proud!) Of The MoFo WHEEEE! Nitpicking too... Elias: Could be taken from the word 'alias'...which is 'also known as' ------ DoubleCross Blue Bow Militia Leader, Friendly Quiet Guy, Sovereign of Darkness, and Worshipper of The ‡ Dark Legionnaire names... Menniker - Ken may have gotten this from the word "moniker". Otherwise, I have no idea. Kragok - Derived from the name of the Marvel character "Havoc". It was originally going to be "Kravok" until Ken changed it. Kommissar - German for "The Commissioner". Her real name, Lien-Da, comes from the MoFo's very own Chainspike. ^_^ Luger - German for "strong", I think. Sgt. Rykor - May have come from the name of the world's largest prison, Rikers Island. Rykor looks and acts like a prison guard in the comic, so it'd make sense. Plus, Ken lives in New York, the location of Rikers Island. ^_^ There's also some sci-fi character something-or-other called a Rykor, though... I think it's a human with no arms or legs that warriors ride on. o_______o Xenin - Xenin is the name of a deadly gas. Might've come from "Xena: Warrior Princess". Benedict - Easy; Benedict Arnold. BTW, Lianne, "All My Children" is the soap opera with Dimitri and Edmund in it. ^_^ ------ Kompi HQ Forumer Eh..? ...I know someone named Elias... ------ Vector Mad Scientist & Game Music Fan Chaotix Names Espio is either short for espionage or Spanish for spy. Either work. Vector means a quantity that has a magnitude and direction, like velocity (vs. speed, which is jusat a magnitude). It's used in this case in the sense of a flight vector - pointing out Vec's aerial abilities. Bonuses Tobor is, I think, robot spelled backwards, and Kirby is named after a comic book writer. ------
